Threads of Time
From Settler to Senator
HerStory.
The program “Threads of Time” delves into the historical and cultural influence of women’s fashion, emphasizing how trends have shaped not only style but also societal roles and self-expression. From the restrictive attire of the Victorian era to the liberating flapper dresses of the 1920s and the expressive mid-century styles, women’s fashion has mirrored evolving ideals of femininity, independence, and identity. Accessories complete the narrative. Guides will escort attendees through decades of remarkable historical pieces, from practical prairie dresses to chic designs from the Boston Store. Fashion history will be discussed along the way.
“Threads of Time” features archival fashion pieces exclusively from the Fort Smith Museum of History textile collection. An informal tea will be served in the old-fashioned soda fountain following the program.
